May 26 – WMHA Awards Night

The 2014/15 Wawa Minor Hockey Awards Night is tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the Michipicoten High School Auditorium. All players are reminded that there is a dress code in effect (no jeans). All family and friends are invited to attend this special evening.

June 20 – Wawa Black Fly Run

blackflyrunThe 15th Annual Black Fly Run will be held June 20th, 2015. Registrants can participate in a 5km, 10km and 1/2 Marathon. The 1/2 Marathon begins at 8:00am and the 10km & 5km runs begin at 8:30am.

Runners can register Friday evening at the Michipicoten Memorial Community Centre from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and from 6:30 – 7:30 a.m. on Race Day.

$35 early bird
$40 starting June 1st

May 31 – Wawa Community Celebration Lunch

Join the community for a “Celebration of Sport” in Wawa, as we kick off the Pan Am Community Torch Relay Event.

Luncheon will be at noon at the MMCC Banquet Room, featuring an unveiling of the Wawa Sport Mural & the presentation of new inductees, and the Wawa Sports Wall of Fame.

The luncheon ($10/at ProShop) will be prepared by Judy Moore and will feature random draws for Pan Am souvenirs and tickets to the Northern National Drag Races this August.

June 13/14 – 1st Dubreuilville Magpie Walleye Derby

The Dubreuilville Magpie Rod & Gun Club Inc. is a non-profit organization chartered in the province of Ontario.  Its objective is to assist with events that include fishing or hunting.  One of our goals is to make anglers discover the richness of fishing in our area.  _8339082The Dubreuilville Magpie Rod & Gun Club Inc., would like to welcome anglers from near and far to participate in the first annual Dubreuilville Magpie Walleye Derby, located on the Magpie River near Dubreuilville, Ontario. 

The Magpie River offers anglers the opportunity to discover 20 miles of great fishing that can accommodate newcomers to the sport all the way to most seasoned angler. 

The Dubreuilville Magpie Walleye Derby is a must attend event on the NOWT circuit and this year will be devoted to the improvement and development in depth of the derby in order a solid base for the years to come.

The amount of entries are limited to 120 teams so sign up early if you don’t want to miss your chance at catching a walleye of a lifetime.

  5. You may register your team in Wawa at Beach Front Trading Post during business hours.

May 23 – MFN Youth Council Dance Party

Michipicoten First Nation Youth Council is holding a Dance Party on Saturday, May 23rd, 2015 at the Legion Hall on Broadway Avenue.

A family dance will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m., with a $2 entry fee.

The Youth Dance will be held from 8:30 – Midnight. Youth from 12 to 18 years are invited to attend. There will be spot dances, prizes, pop and chips. There will be no alcohol or drugs allowed. There is a $5 entry fee.

May 14 – Spring Fling “Vaudeville”

Spring Fling 2015 “Vaudeville” will be held Sunday, May 24th in the Michipicoten High School Auditorium beginning at 6:30 p.m. There will be 14 very talented performers/acts for you to enjoy! Please note that there is an admission, $5 at the door.

May 29 – Dubreuilville Recreation Committee – Mixed Softball Tournament

The Dubreuilville Recreation Committee is holding their Mixed Softball Tournament May 29th, 30th & 31st, 2015. There is $1,200 in Prizes for 1st and 2nd place! Registration $250 per team, and registrations must be paid before 4 p.m. on May 22nd. The tournament takes place on the Dubreuilville Ball Field, and features a Beer Garden and Saturday Night Dance! There are teams from Dubreuilville, Wawa, Hearst, Sudbury, Timmins and more competing for first place, so register now!

May 8 – Manidookewin Gaamak Open House

Michipicoten First Nation’s Manidookewin Gaamak (Cultural Lodge) will be holding an Open House on Friday, May 8th, 2015 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. The Manidookewin Gaamak is located in the portable at the rear of Michipicoten High School (86 Magpie Road).

 

Everyone is welcome, and are invited to come and see what we are all about!

April 30 – Legion Ladies Luncheon

The Legion Ladies Auxiliary is hosting a Luncheon on Thursday, April 30th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Legion Hall on Broadway Avenue. Enjoy a lunch of Lasagna with a small Caesar salad or a Chicken Caesar Salad. Both meals include garlic toast, a light dessert and tea or coffee. The cost is $10.

Sir James Dunn Public School is holding a “Welcome to Kindergarten Evening” from 6 – 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 29th, 2015 in the Gymnasium.

If your child is entering entering JK in September; you and your child are invited to a fun evening with information about family activities that will help your child have a successful transition to Kindergarten.

April 27 – Kick Off for European Tour “Community Walking Challenge”

Once again the Community Walking Challenge is on! Put on your walking shoes and join your team through Europe. Each team marks their progress as they travel through Spain, France, Austria and Greece. There are weekly prizes and grand prizes as well.

To participate:

  • find 11 friends to join you

  • decide on a team name

  • get a pedometer
  • attend the Kick-off at the MMCC on April 27th

Trudy Dunham will be offering her Canadian Red Cross – Standard First Aid and CPR Certification. This also includes the Defibrillation Certificate on Friday, May 8th (6-9 pm) and on Saturday, May 9th (9-5 pm). The cost is $95 per person. If you are interested call Trudy at 705-856-9846.
